Why do many war supporters not care about human lives until it's their own?

This is why I cannot understand why so many americans support the invasion and the terrible loss of life in Iraq, which numbers hundreds of thousands of people, killed as the direct result of the american invasion. This never gets mentioned anywhere in the american media. They only count the few american soldiers killed, while all the innocent men, women and children of iraq are deemd insignificant.
