Why do religious people love Star Trek?

I myself am a Christian who loves Star Trek, and I've always wondered about this. Many religious people who I've know love Star Trek, even though on the surface it seems to preach against religion. I believe it's because of the emphasis on ethics and morality and philosophy, especially the value of life, wherever it's found in the universe, and also the inherent wonder and awe at the universe and its infinite diversity in infinite combinations. What do you think?
