Are Atheists morally and intellectually superior to christians?

Im an atheist and I also have a degree in history (BA). Ive noticed that christians (I refuse to capitalize christians because I believe they dont deserve this type of recognition) have committed most of the atrocities of the world (Holocaust, Crusades, Inquisition, Racism, Slavery). My question is would the world be better off without the ugly defect of religion?
